Today's Sewing Adventures

Looks like an aerial view of a great snowy mountain with trees and fences as mere specks and lines...

Or perhaps black stars against a white sky...

But it is actually little black balls on a white skirt-- black balls from my...

VELVETEEN!
Boy, does it shed! I have used three sheets on our lint roller to get it off my skirt, and have lots of sweeping and vacuuming to do!

I'm about half-done. I have the main part of the bodice done (I managed, I think!) and now have the sleeves and finishing touches to do.

Forgive my message hair in the picture. :-P
I did something else silly today. I was going to change the needle from working with the [extremely slippery] lining to the thick velveteen, and I wasn't holding onto the needle as I unscrewed it so it fell INTO the inside of the sewing machine!! :-S
It wasn't hard to get out though. Mommy and I just turned it over, unscrewed the bottom, and retrieved it-- along with several broken straight pins and a LOT of lint!!
Fun experiences. :-)

Events are the Lord's; the responses are ours...
even in sewing!

I hope you are all having a good week and setting your eyes on the Lord.
Commit your works unto Him!

O black balls, so ubiquitous and...(racking brain to think of a big word for "impossible to get ride of"), ye aggravate our souls. :P

Elinor, you made me laugh with that phrase, "Black stars in a white sky"!!! :D

Yes it comes with the territory in sewing I guess right? Having thread, lent, and scraps and bits of fabric all over ourselves! lol

Glad to see your progress! I can't wait to see the finished product. I really should post pictures of my sister and I's trip to England with Jennie chancey on my xanga. I have on facebook, but not xanga yet. My sister made me a green spencer for the trip, a white gown, and of course my favorite out of all three an ice blue gown! Ice blue is my favorite color! So I was overjoyed.

Wow! That is a lot of lint! When a dear friend of ours was making a dress last year, she needed a lot of help, so she did nearly all her sewing at our house, so my Mom could help her. She had sequins sewn onto the material (it came that way) - by the time she was done, sequins had lodged themselves all over our house!! It took us a long time to rid ourselves of them all! lol

Thank you all for your comments! They're always so fun to get. :-)

Rebecca, I saw some of your pictures on your blog earlier today; I am still trying not be envious of you all on that trip. ;-) Your dresses are just beautiful...

Oh thank you Melanie my sister is a genius isn't she when it comes to sewing period clothes! I am still trying to work on my sewing skills, right now I have done a dress with her help for civil war and many skirts. But not very many dresses. I want to make a civil war dress or two this winter. we will see how that goes as we do civil war reenacting. But I would love to make another regency gown too. I just don't have a place to wear it! But I could wear it at home.
Yes i will post Bath photos sometime this week as well. I still can't believe I went there! I really did not know I would be going at this time last year. Look at my blog and I commented back where I put the story of myself getting to go. Originally only my sister was going.
Yes in the Bath photos I wear the spencer my sister sewed all my hand.

How cute! Can't wait to see when it's all done.
Thats funny! I hate cleaning the lint out of the bottom of my sewing machine! Plus I always forget! It looks lovely!

haha, I like the 'snowy mountain with trees...' :D
It looks like it's coming along really well!! I don't sew much, but I can sympathize with you on the lint and rollers...the last time I washed Ben's black church pants they must have been in with something very 'linty'. I think I used almost a whole lint roller and then re-washed them before they were acceptable again!!
btw, I finally updated my blog ;)
