Amy Dorrit Ballgown

We are planning to attend a Literary Ball in April.  You can come as any book character, and I decided to come as Amy Dorrit.  This is the dress I'm planning to re-make (just hopefully I can find the right fabric for a sensible price! :-) )

Is it lovely? I'm so excited about this project and really hope I can find the right material and get the right look!

What a great project! I always wanted to attend a literary party...*sigh*

Fabric idea:

Got to fabric.com and search for 'elegance taffeta'. It's a poly silk imitation. (and a very good imitation, I must admit!) I've used it on several dresses (the blue felicity dress in my etsy shop for instance) and was very impressed with the texture and drape of the fabric. I noticed they had several lovely shades of purple - you might swatch a few of them and see what you think!

good luck on the dress!!

Thank you so much for the link!!! I think I'll be making an order from Fabric.com. ;-)

Very beautiful Elinor! Love the color!!!!! What sewing patterns do you usually use? I'm curious, cause I've been wanting to make some dresses like those.

Kelly,
Most of the historical patterns I use are from Sense and Sensibility Patterns.

I highly recommend those patterns! The directions are great to work with and the styles are lovely.
How wonderful! I love Amy Dorrit and this dress she wears is so lovely! I can't wait to hear about your progress and to see the final product! :)

I have no doubt you can do it. :-) Keep up the good work, it is going to be great!
I've acclimated it on several dresses the dejected beatitude dress in my etsy boutique for instance and was actual afflicted with the arrangement and array of the fabric. I noticed they had several admirable shades of purple. you ability swatch a few of them and see what you think!
