Little Dorrit dress, Part One

 "That's a lot of hair..."

...errr, fabric. :-)

I've been working on my Amy Dorrit dress for the Literary Ball!  For a while, it was looking like I wouldn't be able to attend the ball, but everything's seeming to work out that I can go, so I'm VERY excited. :-D :-D  So last week we were at JoAnn's and the polyester shantung fabric was on sale, and it was the right shade for my Amy dress, so I purchased it.  This week I've been working on the mock-up, and yesterday I spent several hours laying out the main fabric and situating the pieces and thinking about it... I can't tell you how scary it was making that first cut into the expensive(to me) fabric. ;-)
Now to start sewing the actual bodice.  *is very nervous*  Please pray all goes well!

BTW, thought I might mention that the quote and picture at the beginning of this post are from Tangled, and no, I actually haven't seen it yet, only watched the trailers (English and Japanese) and clips from it over and over again. ;-)  But, I have pre-ordered it from Barnes & Noble and it should be shipping in 10 DAYS!  I am SO EXCITED!  I can't WAIT! :-D :-D :-D

I hope everything goes well with your sewing. I know your dress will be beautiful! I took my sister to see "Tangled" in the theater. It was really cute!
Yay for Tangled!!! Mine is shipping from Amazon.com soon!! :)

I can't wait to see how your Amy Dorrit dress turns out. :) I just finished re-watching that series a few weeks ago. :D
@ beast'sbelle,

I can't wait to see what the dress looks like when it's finished! You're a wonderful seamstress and make very beautiful dresses.

P.s. Do you always in-line the bodice with a off-white fabric? Just curious 'cause I always have to wear a slip with my homemade dresses and skirts.

Oh, honey, I totally hear you about cutting into fabric--I'm the same way! "What if I screw it up irreparably?!" Hehe. Oy. Best wishes with your loverly ballgown!

My family have a hold on Rapunzel on our Netflix account. :-D Will you be posting your thoughts on it once you see it?

God bless,
~"Wild Rose"~
Kelly,
I do almost always line my bodices, though usually with a material corresponding in color with the outside fabric. Sometimes cotton, sometimes the silky, slippery lining fabric from JoAnns. :)

Wild Rose,
I'll try to post about my thoughts after I watch Tangled! I so can't wait to watch it! :-D :-D I love your profile pic, by the way. :-)

Thanks. It was just too cute/quirky not to make into an icon. ;-)
I'm excited, too! "Rapunzel" has always been one of my favorite fairy tales, so I'm glad Disney has FINALLY made a movie of it. :-D

God bless,
~"Wild Rose"~

Your material looks beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I hope you'll post a review of "Tangled" soon. I'm not sure what I think of the trailers I've seen. But I'm a general movie skeptic too. :D

To the KING be all the glory!

Wow, that IS a lot fabric! :) How much do you have laid out in the pictures? I haven't used a lot of expensive fabric, but I know what you mean about that first cut...:-o

You did a fabulous job on your dress!
@Rebekah-- I will try to write up a review for "Tangled" soon. Believe me, it is NOTHING like the the trailers present. (In fact, a lot of the clips in the trailer aren't even in the movie.)

@Caleb-- I think it was 5 1/2 yards total. :-) I was left with about a yard or so in the end though because I ended up not using as much fabric for the skirt as I thought I would. It will probably end up in the form of doll dresses pretty soon... :-)
And thank you! You did a fabulous job on your costume too!

Hopefully I'll get a post about my dress up pretty soon... I'm just waiting first to see if any more pictures of it from the ball will be posted. :-)
